Jot Pro - writing skips alot

I recently bought  the Jot Pro pen as I was told by the sales clerk that it is an excellent pen. I tried using it in the following apps:  Note Taker HD, SKetchBook and ArtStudio.  Neither of these apps works well with the Jot. Tryingt to  write or drawi with it causes a lot of skipping - like there is a dot and long dash.  Trying to spell me name consisted alot of dots and few lines - my rubber pen writes better.  I do not want to put down the pen at all I just want to have this issue fixed so that I can use the pen efficiently.  Do you have any suggestions.  I use the Zagg screen protector on ipad 2.  I clean my ipad 2 with a microfibre cloth everyday, so there is no smudges or fingerprints or dust on it.

It seems that the Jot has a lot of friction on  this screen protector.  Do you have any suggestions in order to fix this problem.  I tried removing the ball from the disc - to if replacing or cleaning (by blowing into to remove dust) and it does not work.  The friction is still the same.  I do not wish to return the pen back to the store but if this issue is not fix my alternative would be to return it and get my money back as it would useless to me.  Thanks for your response.

AN OTHER SOLUTION: I tried this and also works perfectly. Its very easy and simple. Watch the next video. http://youtu.be/S9YKxwEjxQw It seems to make a little bit more noise than before while writing when you touch the screen with the adonit jot pro, but I am not sure about that. But the touch response improves incredibly. Even with very light presure. At the beggining I was worried about if it will blocks the plastic movement, but it doesnt, definitly. Sorry about any posible language mistakes, I am not an english speaker.

Being a fountain pen and writing paper kind of person, i cant even begin to express my concern when I was pushed to move to writing on an I Pad screen. To further the challenge, the unit is enclosed in an Otterbox case with a stout screen protector so need i say more. Initially there was a drag with with Jot Pro disc on the plastic screen so i experimented with a bit of Pledge to slick the surface and that worked brlliantly - zero friction and almost zero scratches = need to keep the screen protector clean. Immediately I contined to experience some light skipping (i became real friendly with the erase button on my writing app and began to search for a solution to this; gripping tighter, pressing harder etc. and then i can across this forum. I tried the thermal paste fix (remove the plastic tip and just touch the tip of the connector in the therman paste and snap back on the tip) ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT FIX - NO SKIPPING, EVEN WITH A LIGHT GRIP! So, the problem seems to be solved. Thermal paste is the goo that you use to improve heat transfer between a CPU and the cooling fan in a computor and is readily available at any electornics store. Strongly recomment the fix be tried! Solved my problem - even with the Otterbox!

Further to my post on 9 April: the performance of my Jot Pro got steadily worse, and the lubricating oil trick didn't work.  I've had to return the Jot Pro to Amazon for a refund.

I'm trying another company's similar design but it isn't as nice as the Jot Pro was when it was working.  I'm toying with the idea of buying another Jot Pro and, if I have any trouble, trying a conductive 'grease' eg Arctic Silver.  But surely that shouldn't be necessary?

I have a same problem of skipping within a very short period, just two days after I started using it. Unfortunately I don't quite know where to get that thermal compound. It is anyway quite unacceptable flaw

I was very disappointed with my Jot Pro skipping. But a tiny drop of ordinary lubricating oil has transformed it - no skipping, precision improved, writing with it now very pleasurable. I guess the problem is the quality of the electrical connection between the ball and the socket in the tip, as they move against each other. Hope this helps.

Mine failed after 20 minutes, which sucks as I was delighted with it on those first 20 minutes! Adonit immediately offered to send me a replacement disk, but I'll be waiting for after Chinese new year now :(

In the mean time I think it can go back to Amazon and I'll buy another to see if that one works...

Applied Arctic Silver thermal compound and the skipping problem went away for me as well. Some thoughts on the subject:

  • Customer having to spend $11 to make the Jot work properly is unacceptable
  • Adonit making claims that changes in iOS are the cause of the problem is unacceptable
  • The gray thermal compound spreads out within the tiny gaps in the Jot disc obstructing view and makes it ugly
  • Product needs to be re-engineered by Adonit so it will work as advertised
  • Then existing customers should be sent a properly working replacement disc

Just to confirm that the thermal paste trick works great. A very small amount turned my jot pro from a frustrating, skipping and hard to use stylus into something that's a pleasure to use.

THE THERMAL COMPOUND WORKS! It really does! THERMAL COMPOUND, ARTIC SILVER. You don't need to replace your discs just because of a skipping issue. I found this solution right here on the Adonit forum and gave it a try. The folks at Radio Shack knew exactly what I was talking about. They even knew it works for the Adonit stylus issues. They recommended the ARTIC SILVER thermal compound - $ 11 total. It comes in a tiny syringe and I needed so little for the Jot Pro fix that this tiny syringe should last me a long while. Take off the disc as per Adonit's instructions. Add a TINY dab of compound. Replace disc as per Adonit's instructions. PLEASE TRY THIS FIX before you give up hope. My Jot Pro has not skipped ONCE since I've added the thermal compound. THERMAL COMPOUND, ARTIC SILVER

Cosmetically it looks like hell, but I have gotten a lot more mileage out of each disc by putting some conductive grease into the ball joint hole before snapping the disc on. If someone would invent a clear conductive grease, I'd be happy as Larry.

I have the Jot Classic and does the same thing. I'm using a iPad 3 and have tried it with multiple writing and drawing programs. Right now the Jot is essentially useless. All the same programs work just fine using my fingers but that's not the way I want to write/draw.

It seems like the Jot just doesn't have enough "presence" on the capacitive screen making it intermittent.

Cut a piece of scotch tape fold it, and put it under the disc (Attach the two sticky parts together leaving the unsticky part to contact the pen and the tablet) then try it.  This worked for me.  Once I saw this work, I them put the scotch tape under the disc and cut to make it fit the disc

I have the same problem. I just purchased the jot pro from Amazon and after only two days of periodic use I noticed it's already starting to skip. At first I thought it was great but low and behold it wasn't meant to be. I just emailed the company to see if they could send me some replacements because I read on the forums that some of the discs were defective. I don't know if that's the problem or not but if it's not and the other ones skip as well then they will have to go back to the drawing board before this stylus will be used by the masses.  It will be a great product if they can get it to work as advertised for 4-6 months like they say it should.  Replacing the discs at that interval wouldn't be a big problem for many, but if I have to replaced it every other day that's not going to work.
