Is the Jot Touch out? Where can I buy?

Pete Huile

Is the Jot Touch actually out? I want to get one, but it's not sold on the Adonit site, and I can't find it any where.

If it is not out, when will it be out?

If it's not out for a long time, I will buy the Jot Pro, but I don't want to buy that and tomorrow, the Jot Touch comes out.

Thanks!

Hi David, we've already been through this situation before with our first Jot Touch, so we're pretty familiar with the way it needs to go. There's already a solid Jot Touch userbase out there, and app developers just need time to integrate the new SDK.

We are not waiting for developers to get interested in the new Jot Touch; they were lining up asking for our SDK months ago. The developers received their retail ready Jot Touches and the SDK several weeks ago, and they've been working on updating their apps. A few apps have been updated already.

What we know, on the basis of our experience last year, is that users do not want to pay $90 for a stylus which just acts like a Jot Pro. We also know from our experience last year that professional reviewers want to see a product which is well supported by apps; the most common complaint by users and professional reviewers last year was that we released the product before it had sufficient app support (though it was acknowledged we had to wait for the developers).

Jon, it's pretty clear that there's a chicken-egg problem going on. Why would app developers incorporate this feature if the styluses aren't out there? Doesn't it make more sense to release the product you have, and give the developers that critical mass of usership than demand they have a product ready to support your product? The stylus will work, will it not? Why not allow app integration follow the hardware and the demand from users? It seems silly to allow your product to languish in a warehouse when people are clamoring for it, and developers aren't lifting a finger because it's not in the wild yet.

Hey! I can see it's a really long time since the Jot Touch were announced.

Now that the stylus are available for Pre-orders, when will it arrive?

I can see that Jon posted a comment here June 25th 2012, reading

Mik, we announced a price some months ago; it has been mentioned several times on our Facebook site and on our forums. :)

Therefore, I'm curious about when it actually will be available for us to get it? 8 months or something has passed from the price was decided, so I think it's apropriate to announce a date.

Your sincerly

So I should have pre-ordered yesterday :P and reading more into it if you have a price worked out and were looking at taking pre-orders it has to be pretty close now.

BTW you can happily buy my silence on pricing with some freebies :-)

That site is not a fake, it's our UK distributor. However, they have not been authorized to make that announcement, and we will be asking them to remove it.

Hi guys,

So if your not going to do pre-orders I assume this site is a fake? http://shop.adonituk.com/adonit-jot-touch/ It might be worth getting it shut down and or putting out a warning? It comes up as a sponsored google link if you search Jot Touch.

Good luck can't wait hopinh to ditch paper all together

When there's a solid release date for the Jot Touch, it will be announced. Until then I can't give you any more information because I don't have any. Right now our Facebook page and blog are the best places for up to date information. This video showing the Jot Touch in action (with retail packaged Jot Touch in the background), was posted on our Facebook page today.

I know there's no official release date yet but any ideas to how much longer a wait? A month, two months? 3 Months (hopefully not!)

I'd like to avoid purchasing one and within a few weeks or two months, the Jot Touch is ready for release. Though I do understand and appreciate taking your time to make sure all the kinks are worked out. You've mentioned scheduling the release for June and it's almost the end of it!

Will the Jot Touch work with Paper by FiftyThree? If so, I'm sold! If not, I'll settle for the Jot Pro.

Sketchbook Pro has been requested by a number of our customers, and we've contacted the developers of this app.

According to our engineers, our Jot SDK was removed from the very latest version of Procreate, and will be included in the next update; the Procreate developers are clearly still working out a few issues.

Thanks Philipp, that's very useful. We realise that a sample of one customer is statistically insignificant, which is why we're asking other customers, and checking ourselves. I'll have a word to our engineers and see if I can answer your other questions.

Hi Jon,

Thank you for the quick reply! So far I haven't experienced a problem with my Jot Pro and Procreate... Worked like a charm (see attached sketch :) On the other hand, maybe I just didn't realize that it doesn't align perfectly and go used to it... How much of an offset are we talking about? Or are there other Jot optimized apps that I could try out for comparison?

Cheers

Philipp, we've already had one customer using the latest version of Procreate inform us that it is not aligning the Jot stylus tip correctly on the screen, and is off-setting it the way non-optimized apps do; we are investigating the issue, and can't comment yet on how accurate the claim is.

Until we can confirm that all the apps whose developers we gave our SDK have integrated it completely and reliably for the current Jot models, we can't release the Jot Touch, which relies on the SDK even more.

Actually, Procreate already supports the Jot Touch... Why not ship now? Why not reward the developers that are quick to integrate the feature? :)

I already use the classic Jot stylus, but I d LOVE to get a Jot Touch and use it with Procreate...

Also, will you ship the product to Switzerland?

Cheers

Dear Tom and Andrew, we're aware that there's a market for a cheaper pressure sensitive stylus supported by only one or two apps. We're interested in the larger market for a much better developed stylus with support by a dozen or more apps. We realise this isn't going to suit everyone, but it's the larger market.

I'm sorry to say my students feel the same way about the jot touch and the price tag scared a few cheap guys to other jot products. The jot has also created the collaboration bewteen the engineers and software dev students to create a palm correction stylus for reasonable budget students and artist.

I agree with Mohammed and Andrew. I have been following e jot touch since it was announced as a future product. I have the new iPad nd now need a good stylus. If the jot touch does not become available soon, I will settle for another product and never get the jot touch. Even a one or two applications gives the ability to use the pressure sensitive features while waiting for more to arrive. It would be worth the $100 and you would still have the best stylus.

Dear Raymond, we're as excited about it as you are! We're in regular contact with app developers, and we're really hoping that the key apps will finish up with our SDK soon. We've had notice of one releasing a new version of their app with our SDK already, so we have good hopes that the others won't be too far behind.

I guess I'm just in the minority then, in wanting it now. I just can't wait for this awesome Stylus! Tell them app developers to hurry up!  ;P

Dear Raymond, I doubt people would be interested in paying US$100 for a stylus which doesn't have pressure sensitivity, especially when this is a key feature of the product as advertised. We have had well over a dozen app developers contact us asking for our SDK after their users asked them to make their app compatible with our Jot, and it makes sense to let them complete the integration. I doubt our customers would appreciate being told that they can buy a US$100 stylus which works in one or two applications, and that they will have to wait an unspecified amount of time for functionality in the app they requested specifically.

Wait, so your not releasing this awesome device because not enough developers have integrated the sdk? I would rather buy the jot now and have one or two apps work at first and more come later, than have to wait to get my hands on it till the apps all support it. If you build it they will come. Get it in consumers hands and then they will drive the demand to the app developers to integrate the sdk.

Dear Mohammed and Andrew, I would love to be able to give you a shipping date for the Jot Touch, but unfortunately I can't. We are still waiting on several popular app developers to complete their integration of our Jot SDK with their product.
